Restoration Dalbeth

The Restoration of the Polish Naval Association Memorial at St Peter’s Cemetery, Dalbeth, Glasgow.

The Memorial in the Polish section of the upper cemetery consists of three separate granite stones, each bearing the names of deceased members of the Polish Naval Association in Glasgow. The memorial was commissioned and erected in 1970 by Boleslaw Lassa, then President of the Association. Lettering on the memorial stones is fragile and needs regular replacement replaced and one of the side stones has become unsteady.

In order to ensure that the memorial will stand the weather and ravages of time, consideration is being given to replacing the three stones with a single granite panel with, attached, a single, heavy, bronze plaque bearing the names as presently engraved and surmounted by the Polish Naval Association badge. Estimated costs to completion are around £2,500 for refurbishment and £5,000 for replacement.
